The Central Bank of Lesotho shall celebrate its 25th
Anniversary on Friday 28th January 2005 at its
headquarters, starting at 8.00 A.M., on which
occasion the Right Honourable the Prime Minister
shall deliver a keynote address. Invited local
guests shall include the Honourable Ministers, the
Diplomatic Corps, and other senior Government
Officials. International guests include governors of
central banks in the SADC region, Kenya, Uganda, as
well as leaders of other collaborative institutions
such as the Chairperson of the Association of
African Central Banks (AACB), and the Executive
Director of the Macroeconomic & Financial Management
Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), as
well as representatives of international financial
institutions such as the International Monetary Fund
(IMF). Former Governors and Deputy Governors of the
Central Bank of Lesotho have also been invited. On
this occasion which shall be marked by traditional
singing and dancing, thirteen (13) staff members
shall receive awards for 25 years of dedicated
service to the Bank. The public is also invited
although space is limited. The theme of the
celebrations is “Two and Half Decades of
Experience and Growth”.
This occasion shall be preceded by a Symposium to be
held on Thursday 27th January 2005 at the Maseru Sun
Hotel, starting at 9.00 A.M. The theme of the
Symposium is “The Role of the Central Bank in
Macroeconomic Stability, Growth and Poverty
Reduction: Have we won the Battles but not the War?”
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Development
Planning, Mr. Timothy Thahane shall officially open
the occasion. The keynote address shall be delivered
by Dr. Andrew Mullei, the Governor of the Central
Bank of Kenya, while discussants shall be the
Governor of the Bank of Malawi, the Deputy Governor
of the Bank of Zambia, and the Economic Advisor to
the Governor of Uganda.
Invited guests include leaders of the local banking
and non-banking financial institutions, the business
community, academics, as well as senior Central Bank
of Lesotho officials.
