Applications are invited from suitably qualified Lesotho Nationals for the position of Principal Economist (Head of Division) in the Real Sector Division of the Department of Research at the Central Bank of Lesotho.

This is a middle management and professional position with good career prospects.  The incumbent reports directly to the Director of Research.  Only applicants who qualify need apply for the position.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

-                      Serve as a key person for all technical work in the Division.

-                      Verify and ensure accuracy and consistency of national accounts data with other macroeconomic accounts.

-                      Ensure production of timely and quality real sector economic indicators.

-                      Constantly monitor domestic real sector economic developments and promptly highlight issues arising therefrom.

-                      Ensure timely production of periodic reports on domestic, real sector economic developments.

-                      Conduct economic research on topical economic issues and supervise sectional economists in doing the same.

-                      Prepare and monitor the annual budget of the Division.

-                      Prepare and monitor the implementation of the annual work programme of the Division.

-                      Participate in selected Technical Committees of the Bank and Government.

-                      Attend middle-level management meetings and handle administrative duties of the division/department.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess MA or MSc in Economics and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience, three of which must be at senior managerial position.

-                      Preparedness to work beyond normal working hours and weekends.

-                      Good communication and analytical skills.

-                      Strong educational background in macroeconomics and econometrics.
