The Central Bank of Lesotho invites applications
from suitably qualified Lesotho Nationals for two
positions of Principal Economist in the
Department of Research. This is a middle
management and professional position with good
career prospects.
Objectives of the Department
The Research Department is the technical arm of the
Bank with the following core functions:
-
Monitoring events in the economy in order to
provide information vital for the formulation and
implementation of monetary policy.
-
Monitoring domestic and international economic
developments for use in the Bank's periodic
reports, economic policy formulation, analysis and
implementation.
-
Producing macroeconomic forecasts and undertaking
research on topical economic issues.
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting directly to Director of Research
Department, the incumbents will perform the
following duties:-

Serve as a key person for all technical work in the Division.
-
Ensure production of timely and quality economic statistics.
-
Supervise production of periodic publications and ensure
quality through editing and coordination of various
review meetings.
-
Constantly monitor economic developments and promptly
highlight issues arising there-from.
-
Conduct economic research on topical economic issues and
supervise sectional economists in doing same.
-
Ensure regular update of data and structural features of the
Bank’s macroeconomic model.
-
Ensure production of macroeconomic forecasts on a periodic
basis.
-
Participate in selected Technical Committees of the Bank and
Government.
-
Prepare and monitor the annual budget of the Division.
-
Prepare and monitor the implementation of annual work
programme of the Division.

Attend mid-level management meetings and handle
administrative duties of the division.
Qualifications and Experience
-
MA or MSc in Economics.
-
A minimum of seven years relevant experience, three of which
are in a senior managerial position.

Applicants must have strong educational background in
macroeconomics and econometrics.
