On Friday, 7th November 2008, the
Governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho, Dr.
Moeketsi Senaoana held a farewell dinner at the
Lehakoe Recreation and Cultural Centre in honour of
the outgoing Director of the Board of the Bank, Mr.
Ezekiel Kobeli Molemohi. Present at the occasion
were Members of the Board of Directors, Members of
the other major Committees of the Bank, and the
Bank’s top management.
All in all, speakers expressed their high regard for
Mr. Molemohi, for the monumental contribution he has
made in the fortunes of the Bank, since its
inception. He was highly commended for being a
guide to fellow Board Members, as well as to past
and present Governorship – 6 in all. In a word, Mr.
Molemohi has been, and will always be “A Walking
Encyclopedia” to the Bank.
On a light side; he was also described as a
vivacious, kind person, with a booming laugh. A
person with a great capacity to remember people’s
names, names of places; a raconteur par
excellence when it comes to relaying stories
about all manner of things, including stories about
people, especially those stories that people about
whom would especially prefer not to remember.
In delivering his vote of thanks, Mr. Molemohi
highlighted that the importance of his retirement as
a Member of the Board is that it comes during the
same month that he was appointed as Governor of the
Lesotho Monetary Authority (LMA) in 1979. During
his tenure as Governor of the LMA, he was involved
in the mobilization of funds for, and construction
of, the current Bank headquarters. He was also
involved in the facilitation for the issuing, for
the first time, of the country’s currency. As a
Member of the Board of Directors, he was involved in
the establishment of, among others, the Audit
Committee, the Remuneration Committee, and the
Distress Fund.
Mr. Molemohi was appointed as Governor of the
Lesotho Monetary Authority in 1979, which position
he occupied until 1982. Prior to his appointment to
the LMA, he had been a civil servant in the Ministry
of Finance, where he left as Chief Financial
Controller. When the name Lesotho Monetary
Authority was changed to that of the Central Bank of
Lesotho in 1982, and additional functions added to
this institution, he assumed the role of Deputy
Governor until his retirement in 1989. He has
served as a Director of the Board, on a number of
occasions until his retirement in 2008. In this
capacity, he has also served in various other
sub-Committees of the Board.
