His
Majesty King Letsie III has, in accordance with the
advice of the Right Honourable the Prime Minister,
appointed Dr. Moeketsi Senaoana and Dr.
Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane as First and Second Deputy
Governors, respectively. The appointments took
effect from 01 April, 2006.
Dr.
Senaoana, a former Minister of Finance and Economic
Planning in Lesotho, joins the Central Bank after
five years as Investment Advisor within the
Directorate of Trade, Mining, Industry, Finance and
Investment (TIFI) of SADC, based in Gaborone,
Botswana. Previous to this position, he spent two
years as Technical Advisor, at the National Treasury
in the Republic of South Africa. He had started his
career in 1982 to 1994 as Senior Lecturer in
Economics, at the National University of Lesotho.
Dr.
Matlanyane is the first woman in Lesotho to become a
Deputy Governor. She graduated from the National
University of Lesotho. She obtained her MA
Economics at the University of Botswana and PhD,
Economics, specialising in Macroenonomic Modelling
from the University of Pretoria. She has held
teaching positions at the Universities of Botswana
and Pretoria. She joins the Bank after teaching at
the National University of Lesotho from 1994 to
date.
Dr.
Senaoana will be in charge of the Financial
Stability aspects of the Bank’s mandate as
stipulated in the Central Bank of Lesotho Act No.2
of 2000; while Dr. Matlanyane will be responsible
for achievement of monetary stability. In his role
of promoting financial stability, Dr. Senaoana will
be in charge of Supervision, Administration and
Information and Communication Technology
Departments. Dr. Matlanyane, in pursuit of the
monetary stability, will be responsible for
Research, Operations and Financial Markets
Departments. Both Deputies hold high qualifications
which are relevant to the Central Bank business.
