The Governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho will
hand over a BMW Motor Car as donation, to the
Lesotho Child Counselling Unit (LCCU), on Wednesday
19th July 2006 at 3.00 p.m. at the
Central Bank of Lesotho grounds.
The donation of the vehicle to the LCCU comes
following a physical evaluation of the operations of
some the service providers for Orphaned and
Vulnerable Children (OVC). The Bank considered that
the LCCU provides the counseling services throughout
the country and serves as witness in courts of law
in cases that involve children under their care.
This requires a lot of travel by public transport
within the length and breadth of the country. On
the other hand, the Unit requires transport to
attend to emergency situations, such as taking
children for medical attention, especially at odd
hours of the night.
The LCCU is a place of safety for traumatized
children aged between 2 and 18 years. It provides
services throughout the country to protect the
rights of vulnerable and orphaned children, most of
whom are girls. Its activities include counseling,
home visits, follow ups, and holding of public
gatherings. The Unit is based in Mazenod.
