As
part of the activities to celebrate its 30th
anniversary, the Central Bank of Lesotho, in
collaboration with the Media Institute of
Southern-Africa (MISA) – Lesotho Chapter will hold a
one-day Workshop on Economic/Business Reporting for
the local journalists at the Lehakoe Recreation and
Cultural Centre, on Friday 15th October
2010, starting at 8.00 a.m.
The Central Bank of Lesotho, as advisor to the
Government of Lesotho on economic and financial
matters, recognizes the need for the public to be
provided with accurate information about issues of
economics and finance. The Bank places high
sensitivity to the right of the public to be
accurately informed about issues that affect their
lives. The public relies heavily on the media to
provide them with this information. In return, the
media is also burdened with the responsibility to
provide timely and accurate information to the
public that needs it to become informed on the
issues that affect them. This is premised on the
recognition that accurate information is the
lifeblood of any economy. Good quality, consistent,
and understandable reporting by the media enhances
both the public and investor confidence, and thereby
contributes in the sustainability and growth of any
economy.
This Workshop is a contribution by the Central Bank
of Lesotho in the general development in the quality
of economic and business reporting in Lesotho. It
is intended as a first step to the development of a
reporting framework that will, in future, add value
to the information supply chain that is, not only
comparable across various economic sectors in
Lesotho and elsewhere, but whose content can also be
measured with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
The Workshop will be facilitated by practitioners in
the fields of journalism, business, and
professionals from the Central Bank of Lesotho.
