African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Workshop in Lesotho

The Central Bank of Lesotho in conjunction with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) will hold a Workshop on Thursday, 9th July 2009, between 9.00 AM and 12.30 PM, at the Lehakoe Recreation and Cultural Centre. The Workshop is intended to inform the economic community of Lesotho about AERC activities with special emphasis on the opportunities available and encourage active participation by Basotho Economists. It will be graced by the presence of the Executive Director of AERC, who will be the lead presenter.

The AERC was established in 1988 as a public not-for-profit organisation devoted to advanced policy research and training in economics. AERC's mission is to strengthen local capacity for conducting independent, rigorous inquiry into the problems facing the management of economies in sub-Saharan Africa. The AERC Research Programme uses a flexible approach towards improving the technical skills of local researchers, allowing for regional determination of research priorities and strengthening national institutions concerned with economic policy research. The programme also fosters closer ties between researchers and policy makers. Specifically, AERC intends to:

  • Enhance the capacity of locally-based researchers to conduct policy-relevant economic inquiry,
  • Promote the retention of such capacity, and
  • Encourage its application in the policy context.
