PUBLIC NOTICE  - M100 Counterfeit Notes

 PUBLIC NOTICE

It has come to the attention of the Central Bank of Lesotho that there are counterfeit M100 notes currently in circulation in Lesotho.  These notes can be distinguished from the genuine notes by paying attention to the following features:

  1. The continuous silver line running down the note (Security Thread) is missing on the counterfeit.
  2. The counterfeit note does not show the watermark which is situated to the right corner near the serial number of the genuine note.  The said watermark represents the Lesotho Coat of Arms.
  3. The counterfeit note is made of ordinary paper and feels different to the touch from other genuine Maloti notes.
  4. In general, all colours of the counterfeit note are deeper when compared with those of the genuine notes.

The public is herby warned to be extra vigilant when making transactions in the M100.00 note and to ensure that the security features in the counterfeit note described above are observed.

The Central Bank of Lesotho hereby requests the public to report to the nearest Police Station or the Central Bank of Lesotho any incidence of counterfeit notes that they may come across so that this criminal activity may be eradicated swiftly and completely.
